SolutionsPT has achieved accreditation from SAFEcontractor, a leading UK scheme designed to help industry improve its health and safety record. The SAFEcontractor certificate was awarded for all of the company’s activity, including technical consultancy, industrial automation hardware, industrial automation software, training and support.
The accreditation process was driven by SolutionsPT’s desire to have a recognised Health and Safety standard across the business. SAFEcontractor maintains that accreditation will enhance a company’s ability to attract new contracts and be viewed positively by insurers. The accreditation covers SolutionsPT’s entire range of products and services, from SCADA and data historian supply and training to MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) and industrial computers.
“We have already encountered customers who regard this accreditation as mandatory and we expect this to happen with increasing frequency in the future,” explained Pat Cooper, SolutionsPT’s operations manager. “We passionately believe in ensuring the company meets and shines against every relevant standard. For example we have, for a long time, been ISO 9001 accredited and are currently working on ISO 14001, the environmental management standard,” she concluded.
John Kinge, head of risk at SAFEcontractor said, "Major organisations can no longer run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies. All companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that SolutionsPT has done. The firm's high standard has set an example, which hopefully will be followed by other companies involved in industrial automation."
Under the SAFEcontractor system, businesses undergo a vetting process, which examines health and safety procedure and their track record for safe practice. Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered employer organisations via the organisation’s Web site, www.safecontractor.com. The database is used to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site and employers registered with SAFEcontractor agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only those companies that have received accreditation.
SAFEcontractor accreditation is applicable to most sectors of industry, although it is particularly relevant to food manufacture, property, facilities management, retail and leisure, all of which are big users of contract services. Over 120 major nation-wide businesses have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for services such as building, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.

The company operates through three independent but interlocking brands SoftwarePT, HardwarePT and EmsPT. The software division comprises the brands ‘Wonderware United Kingdom’, ‘Wonderware Ireland’ and Versiondog. About SAFEcontractor: SAFEcontractor is a third party accreditation scheme that assesses health and safety arrangements. Many major clients recognise the scheme and accept the SAFEcontractor certificate as confirmation of competency. As a result, companies holding the accreditation often only need to be assessed once, rather than by every client and prospect.
