10 Minutes with an Expert - Historian 2012 R2

You might not know quite what it’s like to track down our technical consultants, but let me assure you it’s not easy. They are like major celebrities in the world of information solutions! The other day I was lucky enough to spend some time with Paul Alcock, our pre-sales Technical Consultant who talked me through some of the new features of Wonderware Historian 2012 R2 and it's main benefits. Here's what he had to say:

      1.  Historian 2012 R2 enables you to fully utilise the memory of your servers allowing for much larger Historians via the newly improved 64 bit operating system and half a million IO Tag Count
      2. Late data is now treated as efficiently as sustained data, reducing the gaps in your data
      3. Performance issue are improved  (previously uploading csv files took a while) - now this is more efficient and data retrieval time is faster
      4. Network traffic is decreased allowing for faster data collection
      5. The introduction of a redundant Historian (meaning two separate Historians working simultaneously) brings both disaster recovery and high availability benefits. Protecting your assets from flood, fire, power cut etc. without incurring a cut in your data capture.

So my main take away from this is not to let the 2012 R2 releases pass me by as they bring serious improvements in terms of achieving operational excellence, optimising your capacity and data communications.
