Last week we discussed what our users and customers thought
of ArchestrA Graphics and the benefits obtained from this technology. Following
on from this theme, today we discuss the seven advantages of High Performance
Human Machine Interface (HMI).
Back
to basics – what is High Performance HMI?
The human-machine interface (HMI) is the collection of graphic displays used by the operator to monitor and interact with a control system ( DCS or SCADA.)
The design of the graphics (Wonderware recommends the use of ArchestrA Graphics) on a HMI plays a critical role in determining the operator’s ability to effectively manage the operation.
The aim of a High Performance HMI is to give operators all the information they require on one overview screen. This is especially important in an age of information overload, busy control rooms, and limited resources.
By striping back from busy HMI screens - often with distracting moving graphics, in a variety of different colours, and by focusing instead on developing high performance graphics with themed alarm limits, enables operators to easily detect abnormalities and act on them, dramatically reducing the risk of missing important warning signs.
What High Performance HMI's are designed to achieve:
1.
Increase operator awareness of processes
2.
Provide the tools to easily identify abnormal
situations
3. Provide
access to trend information and visual knowledge of limits
4. Decrease reaction time and reduce reactive decision making
4. Decrease reaction time and reduce reactive decision making
5. Reduce
operator workload and enable them to focus their efforts more effectively
6.
Provide a standardised methodology of graphics throughout an organisation
7. Enable
engineers to get the most out of the system
